The goal of the Practical Nurse Program is to prepare the graduate to take and pass the NCLEX-PN Exam, thus gaining licensure and enabling the graduate to gain employment as an entry-level Licensed Practical Nurse. We believe that practical nursing is both an art and a science whose purpose is fourfold: to promote health, to prevent illness, to restore health, and to alleviate suffering. We believe that practical nursing is an essential component of the health care team. The opportunity to prepare for a career in practical nursing at the college is available to all individuals who meet our admissions criteria regardless of race, color, creed, or gender.
The curriculum follows the Louisiana Board of Practical Nurse Examiners (LSBPNE) guidelines for the education of practical nurses and is planned related to the practice of nursing focusing on direct patient care. We seek to provide each student with both the technical skills and knowledge, which will enable them to join the nursing community as competent, compassionate, caring practical nurses.

Licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses (known as LPNs or LVNs, depending on the state in which they work) provide basic medical care. They work under the direction of registered nurses and doctors.
Duties. Licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses typically do the following:
- Monitor patients鈥 health 鈥 for example, by checking their blood pressure.
- Administer basic nursing care, including changing bandages and inserting catheters.
- Provide for the basic comfort of patients, such as helping them bathe or dress.
- Discuss health care with patients and listen to their concerns
- Report patients鈥 status to registered nurses and doctors
- Keep records on patients鈥 health
Experienced licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses oversee and direct other LPNs or LVNs and unlicensed medical staff. The LPN school at 探花精选 aims to not only educate students on the fundamentals of practical nursing, but also to train them with hands-on experience.
Employment of licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses is projected to grow 3 percent from 2023 to 2033, about as fast as the average for all occupations.
As the U.S. population ages, the overall need for healthcare is expected to increase. A large number of licensed practical nurses are expected to retire over the coming decade. Job prospects should, therefore, be excellent for licensed and experienced LPNs.
The median annual wage of licensed practical nurses was $59,730 in 2023. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than the amount and half earned less.
